Tell Kay About How Gas Prices Impact You PDF Print E-mail

How much is gas in your town? How much does it cost to fill up your tank? How have you sacrificed? We can't afford to wait until Elizabeth Dole decides it's serious enough to act -- if she decides to act at all.

Since 2003, has your salary increased 270%? Is your house worth 270% more? Does your retirement fund or your children's college account have 270% more money in it?

The likely answer to all of these questions is no. When Elizabeth Dole took office, the average price of gas was $1.52 per gallon. Now it's ballooned 270% to $4.10 per gallon.

The rising price of gas isn't something that happened overnight. Elizabeth Dole has been a Washington insider for more than 40 years -- forty years of inaction, forty years of not listening.

How much is gas in your town? How much does it cost to fill up your tank? How have you sacrificed?

We can't afford to wait until Elizabeth Dole decides it's serious enough to act -- if she decides to act at all. We need to get started turning things around to provide relief to consumers at the pump now and repeal the $17 billion in tax breaks to Elizabeth Dole's friends at Big Oil and Gas and invest that money into renewable energy for our nation's safety and economic security in the long term.

Throughout the summer, Kay has been visiting gas stations across the state talking to consumers about the skyrocketing gas prices, and her ideas to help bring relief to consumers in the short term, while helping our country invest in renewable energy in the long term.

Kay wants to know -- how have high gas prices affected you?

Grappling with the rising cost of gas, North Carolinians are being forced to decide between filling the gas tank or the refrigerator. Small businesses are swallowing skyrocketing transportation costs and we are already seeing the sticker shock at the pump transfer over to product price tags.

Why does Elizabeth Dole continue to protect her friends at Big Oil and Gas while you and I foot the bill? When it comes to Elizabeth Dole, her "experience" in Washington is just another way of doing business which hasn't helped us invest in long term renewable energy and it's not doing a thing for families who are paying upward of $4.10 for a gallon of gas.

With your help, we can turn things around and get this right. But we have to start now.
